The most extraordinary feature of the Blois Castle is its grand architecture that displays not just one or two, but 4 major epochs of French architectural styles. Built between the middle ages (13th century) and 17th century, what you see is four grand wings - Gothic: Medieval Fortress, Flamboyant Gothic: Louis XII Wing, Early Renaissance: François I Wing and Classical: Gaston, Duke of Orléans Wing. Take your time and marvel at the grandeur of these facades and soak in the rich history of this attraction.
The Castle houses the Blois Fine Arts Museum in the flamboyant Gothic Louis XII Wing. Thousands of prominent sculptures, paintings and tapestries from the 16th to 19th century are on display here. Some of the centerpiece paintings (a total of 300 in number) are works of French greats, the likes of Rubens, Ingres and Boucher. The museum also offers an original visitor’s pathway app, the use of which appeals to the five senses.
One of the biggest and the most dramatic festivals to experience at the Blois Castle is the unique Sound & Light Show. It takes place every evening from late April to late September, as a tribute to the Royal Castle. The event has huge 360° video mapping projections on display to showcase the splendid architecture and history of the courtyard. Expect extraordinary lighting and narration; in short, a spectacle that brings alive the love, dramas and secrets of the Castle.
With about 400 HistoPads or digital pads at the disposal of visitors, one can now visit the Blois Castle in augmented reality. This cutting-edge technology offers shockingly immersive experiences by animating decors, customs, lives of the sovereigns and their court. You get to live and learn about the architecture of the Castle, interact with the site through a virtual treasure hunt, experience 3D reproductions of the Castle’s four periods of construction and be a present and interactive participant throughout.
